Access Point Settings

Vocera requires specific access point settings and configuration recommendations to optimize wireless communication in your environment.

The following table displays the AP settings required for Vocera.

AP Feature Setting
Beacon Interval

The typical default beacon interval is 100 milliseconds.

DTIM Interval

The default DTIM interval is 1.

Data Rates

Enable all 802.11a/b/g/n data rates, and set one or more to basic.

SSID

You can configure badge profiles to use different SSIDs for different badge types. You must use the same SSID for all access points on a VLAN.

Security Settings

You can configure badge profiles to use different security settings for different badge types. You must use the same security settings for all access points on a VLAN.

Peer-To-Peer Communication

Set the value to enabled on the access point or on the WLAN controller if CAPWAP access points are used.

Encryption

The encryption to be set to AES if 802.11n rates are used.

Channel Utilization

Radio Channel Utilization should be consistently less than 30%. For more information, refer to Channel Utilization.

Channel Width

The channel width used are as follows:
  • 2.4GHz—20 Mhz
  • 5 Ghz—20Mhz or 40Mhz
