Layer 2 IGMP Snooping

IGMP snooping is a method wherein Layer 2 devices can listen in on IGMP conversations between hosts and routers.

IGMP intelligently forward multicast traffic only to those ports that have joined the multicast group. IGMP snooping can be configured on network switches and access points.

To enable multicast features across subnet boundaries, perform the following steps:

  1. Enable IGMP snooping for all devices. For example, switches and access points on each subnet used by the badge.
  2. Enable IGMP multicast routing on all intermediate routers or other Layer 3 network devices on the Vocera subnets.
  3. Set the Broadcast Uses IGMP property to TRUE on all badges.
For more information, refer to Vocera Badge Configuration Guide.
