Vocera Platform

Release Notes - Version 6.4.0.39

Updated: November 18, 2022

About the Vocera Platform

The Vocera Platform optimizes patient safety by helping clinicians make real-time decisions and communicate instantly in critical situations; it is the intelligent ecosystem that connects all the people and information needed to deliver patient care.

With the intelligence of the Vocera Platform, clinicians can quickly determine activities that they need to prioritize and close the loop faster with secure messaging, phone calls, and alert and alarm notifications—all in one place. You can locate people quickly, collaborate productively, and reduce the noise, using the device that fits your workflow—the Vocera Vina smartphone app, the V-Series Smartbadge, or the B-Series Badge. The Vocera Platform enables the flow of meaningful, actionable information between people and systems and allows it to be received when, where, and how it’s needed, keeping the patient at the center of care.

In addition, the Vocera Platform now offers simplified deployment, maintenance, and administration, as well as a smaller footprint requiring fewer servers.

Direct membership to Department groups is obtained when you create a Department and add a Department group via Facility >Department >Department Group in the Web Console. Users can indirectly become a member of a Department group when they have a Department assigned as their Home Department or when they have an assignment in a Department group. For example, users assigned through the Assignment Group Sync feature in Bulk Actions or users assigned to a department as part of the nested group.

Voice Experience

The following section describes a list of new features and enhancements to the Voice Experience component of the Vocera Platform.

  • E-911 Location Services

Enhanced 911 (E-911) Location Service allows a 911 call dispatcher to locate a Vocera device user making a 911 call and quickly send help to the caller. Vocera provides an option to configure an Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN) to identify the caller's location and connect the caller with a 911 call dispatcher.

  • Enable or Disable User Voicemail

A new option is available in the Web Console > Users to enable or disable the user's voicemail. The Enable User Voicemail feature is enabled by default. Users can enable or disable voicemail from My Profile when this feature is enabled in the system.

  • Enhancements to Dynamic Extensions

Dynamic Extension feature enhancements provide options to automatically assign extensions to users when they get added to the system, eliminating the need to manage the assignment of Vocera phone extensions manually.

System administrators can view the real-time status of the dynamic extensions in Web Console and track the assigned or available (free) extension numbers.

When you enable the dynamic extension feature, you can configure the settings to:

    • (Default) Assign dynamic extensions when initiating a page

    • Assign dynamic extensions to users when they login

    • Expire the assigned dynamic extensions when users logout

    • Expire the assigned dynamic extension after a specific time

Attention: The Enhanced Voice feature is available for beta testing, contact your Vocera account team for more information.

  • Extension Dialing Updates

    • Support for 10-digit Long Extension Numbers - The Dial an extension voice command now supports configuring extensions less than or equal to 10 digits. System administrators can enable dialing across all the facilities that they support. The TelExtensionLength server property is modified to support the configuration for the 10 digit extension dialing. Contact your Vocera Support team member for additional information on setting the server property configuration.
    • Enhancements to Vina to Vina Extension Dialing - Vina users can dial extensions for other Vina users in their facility and have their calls routed efficiently. The call routing logic is enhanced, and the calls no longer loop through PBX or the Telephony service.

  • Hasty Delete

Deletion of User, Group, and AP Location entities can be controlled using the HastyDelete property. Contact your Vocera Support team member to change the HastyDelete property configuration for your organization. (SIV- 6190 CASE-1875)

  • View Vocera Telephony Log Events in Audit Logs

Logs related to enabling and disabling Telephony configuration from the Web Console are now displayed in the Status > Audit Logs section of the Web Console. Log details provide useful information required to troubleshoot telephony and voice call related issues.

  • Vocera Environmental Services (EVS) Adapter and Voice Commands

The new EVS adapter adds support for the EVS voice commands on the Vocera Platform. The Vocera EVS adapter is fully integrated with the EPIC EVS module and improves the response time of the environmental services staff members' requests and related workflow. EVS staff members are sent cleaning requests and automated reminders; staff members respond with EVS voice commands that update the request status in the Epic EVS module to ensure that cleaning requests are sent to the right staff member to respond to the immediate need. The EVS voice commands are only supported on B3000N badge.

  • Voice Server removes all client sessions for an expired signaling gateway instance. You can view the voice server logs for off network events in Status > Audit Logs in the Web Console to verify the change. (SIV-6974 CASE-1962)
