Learn how the selected locale affects speech recognition, text-to-speech, and the Vocera genie.

The binary representation of a learned command in Vocera database tables depends on the localization suite (and therefore the acoustic model) in use when the name or command is learned. When the Vocera system learns a name or keyword, it notes which localization suite is in use. Vocera keeps a separate set of learned names and keywords for each localization suite.

Installing the Vocera Localization Suite

Vocera enables you to customize the Vocera Voice Server and the Vocera Report Server for different locales.

When you install the Vocera Localization Suite, speech recognition behavior, genie prompts, and the telephony dial-plan are modified to reflect the locale conventions.

Warning: The Install Shield Wizard stops the Vocera Server during the installation and empties the database. This occurs when you install the localization suite for both the Vocera Voice Server and the Vocera Report Server. If you must switch locales as part of an upgrade, rebuild the Voice and Report Server database after upgrading. Please consult with a Vocera representative before attempting to do this as it requires special instructions.

Prerequisite: Install Vocera Voice Server or the Report Server and download the appropriate Localization Suite image file. For more information on installing Vocera products and downloading the ISO image file, see Electron Software Distribution and the Vocera Voice Server or the Report Server installation steps in the Vocera Installation Guide.

To launch the Vocera Localization Suite and change the locale for Vocera products:

  1. Log into the computer with administrator privileges.

  2. After you install Vocera Voice Server or Report Server, navigate to the directory where you downloaded the Vocera Localization Suite.

  3. Click the VoceraLocalizer executable. The InstallShield Wizard for the Vocera Localization Suite is launched.

  4. Follow the prompts through the Install Shield Wizard.

  5. Click Finish to exit the Install Shield Wizard.

Note: If you receive an error message related to a failed restore, simply restart the Vocera Voice Server. This error occurs when data from the previous locale remains in the backup directory. Restarting the Vocera Voice Server empties the database from the previous installation and allows you to begin using Vocera with fresh database in the installed locale.

Uninstalling the Vocera Localization Suite

The Vocera uninstaller is launched from the Windows Control panel utility, Programs and Features. When you uninstall a Localization Suite, the application launched after you select Vocera from Programs and Features reverts the server locale back to US English.

To uninstall the locale of your Vocera products:

  1. For Windows 2008 and Windows 2012, open the Windows Control Panel and select Programs and Features.

  2. Select Vocera Voice Localization Suite from the list of displayed software removal options.

    The Vocera uninstaller is launched.

Warning: The server is stopped during Vocera software removal and empties the database.

  3. Follow the prompts through the uninstaller Wizard.

  4. Click Finish to exit the uninstaller Wizard.

  5. Restart the Windows Server after the application completes removing the Vocera Localization Suite.

Note: If you receive an error message related to a failed restore, simply restart the Vocera Voice Server. This error occurs when data from the previous locale remains in the backup directory. Restarting the Vocera Voice Server empties the database from the previous installation and allows you to begin using Vocera with fresh database in the US English locale.
