Vocera Edge, a cloud-based solution for smartphones, enhances care team mobility and simplifies the work at the point of care through effective, reliable, clinical workflows and communication. With Vocera Edge, clinicians can document to the EHR while receiving filtered, prioritized alarm and task notifications. Physicians can easily locate and communicate with the nurse and team members supporting their patients, saving time with each connection.

The following list displays new features in this version of Vocera Edge.

Global System Release Notes

• Presence Sync with Vocera Engage

  • Description: To support Vocera Edge integration with Vocera Engage, when a user sets their Presence in the Edge Mobile Apps, Edge Web Messaging, or via Engage Rules, Presence is updated throughout the system and viewable in the mobile apps, web app, Staff Assignment, and the Engage Web Console.

• Bi-Directional Assignments: Integration with Vocera Engage

  • Description: When an assignment is created within Engage Staff Assignment, Edge Mobile Apps, or 3rd Parties (e.g, Epic), the assignment is updated throughout the system. For example, if an assignment is created in the Vocera Edge mobile app, then that assignment is reflected in Vocera Engage Staff Assignment and integrated 3rd party software (such as Epic).

  • Configuration and Maintenance: Vocera Edge sends and receives assignments using the EngageAssignmentPublisher and EngageAssignmentSubscriber plugins. These plugins are configured by Vocera Stryker during the integration process.

    To update Assignments, go to: Enterprise Manager > Assignments.

• Notification Behavior: Integration with Vocera Engage

  • Description: To support Vocera Edge integration with Vocera Engage, Vocera Edge can now receive notifications from Vocera Engage and use the notification behavior settings configured in Vocera Engage.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: Vocera Edge receives Vocera Engage notifications and notification behavior using the wctp plugin, which provides a REST API connection. The notification behaviors are configured in the Outgoing WCTP adapter in Vocera Engage. This plugin is configured by Vocera Stryker during the integration process.

• Scan Wristband to Assign Patient

  • Description: Vocera Edge for iOS Clinical app users who have no assigned patients can now assign a patient to themselves when they scan the patient's wristband if the patient is currently unassigned.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: To configure this feature in the Vocera Edge Enterprise Manager:

    • To enable the feature, go to Enterprise Manager > Settings > Security > Advanced Settings. Update the Prompt to Assign on Patient Scan Enabled setting to true.
    • To prompt unassigned users to assign themselves to a patient only when they initiate a patient scan from the Assignments view, go to Enterprise Manager > Settings > Assign on Patient Scan. Select the Only from Assignments View checkbox.
    • To enable the feature on a Care Role, go to Enterprise Manager > Configuration > Care Roles. When you create or edit a Care Role assigned to a patient, select the Prompt To Assign On Patient Scan checkbox.
    • To enable the feature on a Nursing Unit Organization Unit, go to Enterprise Manager > Configuration > Organization Units. When you create or edit an Organization Unit of type Nursing Unit, select the Prompt To Assign On Patient Scan checkbox.

• New Properties for CUCM Voice Systems

  • Description: When you configure a CUCM PBX context in the Vocera Edge Enterprise Manager, you can now set the following two properties:

    • Advertise Globally Via Ils: Enables or disables the DN ILS Property for CUCM 14.
    • Number Mask: The number mask to be used for the DN ILS Settings for CUCM 14.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: To configure a CUCM voice system, go to Enterprise Manager > Settings > Voice Systems. When you create a new voice system with a Type of Cisco CUCM, the two new properties display under the Properties section.

• Custom Notification Sounds

  • Description: Vocera Edge allows the creation of up to 10 custom notification sounds.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: Go to Enterprise Manager > Settings > Notification Behavior > Notification Sounds. Click Create New to add a new notification sound.

• Care Role Exclusivity

  • Description: The Care Role Details screen now includes an Exclusive per Organization Unit or Patient checkbox to show if the care role is exclusive to a patient or organization unit. The care role exclusivity is now shown in the Care Roles table under the Exclusive column.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: Go to Enterprise Manager > Configuration > Care Roles. The new Exclusive per Organization Unit or Patient is displayed under the Options section.

• Support for Patient Name Suffixes

  • Description: Vocera Edge now properly supports suffixes (e.g., Jr, III, MD, PhD) in patient names. Suffixes are no longer appended to the patient's last name. Instead, the suffix is its own entity in the database. The Vocera Edge Enterprise Manager, Vocera Edge Communications Web Messenger, and Vocera Edge Clinical Manager display the suffix to the right of the last name (<last name> <suffix>, <first name> <middle name>) when the patient name is shown in the text or in a label. They display the suffix in the Last Name column when the patient name is shown in a table.

Med Admin Release Notes

• Updated "Manager Created" Alert Reason List to "Manually Charted"

  • Description: The Manager Created label name has been updated to Manually Charted. The updated name is visible on the Alerts and Reasons page in the Clinical Manager and in all reports that track, query, and display Manager Created override reasons.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: To view the new options, go to Clinical Manager > Configuration > Alerts and Reasons > Reasons List.

• Override Reason required when using the Document Dose option

  • Description: An override reason is now required for manually charted medications when using the Document Dose option.

  • Configuration and Maintenance: When the user opens a Medication Order, then selects Options > Document Dose, the app prompts the user to select an override reason from the Manually Charted Alert Reason List.

• EDGE-4485 Vocera Edge Analytics reports now display Vocera Edge Analytics instead of PatientTouch Analytics in the report footers.

• EDGE-4409 Vocera Edge Communications Web Messenger now correctly shows symbols, such as the ampersand, instead of the HTML entity (&amp), when a user sends a broadcast message through Vocera Edge Enterprise Manager or Vocera Edge Communications Web Messenger.

• EDGE-3767 In Vocera Edge Analytics, fixed a typo in the Event_Type column header in the Active User By Day report.

• EDGE-3660 The patient's age is now displayed correctly on specimen collection labels.
