Vocera Edge, a cloud-based solution for smartphones, enhances care team mobility and simplifies the work at the point of care through effective, reliable, clinical workflows and communication. With Vocera Edge, clinicians can document to the EHR while receiving filtered, prioritized alarm and task notifications. Physicians can easily locate and communicate with the nurse and team members supporting their patients, saving time with each connection.

The following list displays new features in this version of Vocera Edge.

Global System Release Notes

• Engage/Edge Integration
  • Description: Edge now integrates with Engage for caregiver assignment, alerts, and alarms management. When a caregiver assignment is made in Edge, this will be sent to Engage. Similarly, if a caregiver assignment is made in Engage, this will be sent to Edge. When Engage receives an alert/alarm (e.g., nurse call, code, etc.), Engage will send the alert/alarm to the appropriately assigned caregiver in Edge. When a caregiver is unassigned in either system, the update will be sent and the caregiver will no longer receive the alerts.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Please work with your Vocera Edge Technical Account Manager (TAM) or Project Manager for the integration implementation.

• Care Role Forwarding (CRF) to a BYOD Device (Device Phone)
  • Description: When a caregiver is on a BYOD device and assigned to a care role configured with CRF, a cell phone number is required in the Vocera Edge Settings so the caregiver can be reached. If the device in use does not yet have one configured, the caregiver will be prompted to enter the number. The number will auto-populate as a non-modifiable “Device Phone” entry in Enterprise Manager, Caregiver, Contacts. When the commonly known care role extension is dialed, Vocera Edge will call the assigned caregiver's device phone. After a defined amount of time, if there is no answer (reaching someone’s voicemail is considered an “answered call”), Vocera Edge will dial the CRF fallback number (if configured). Once the caregiver is unassigned from the care role, his or her device number will be cleared from the calling logic so as not to call that caregiver when not appropriate.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: To toggle CRF to Cellular on, go to: Enterprise Manager, Settings, Security, Advanced Settings, and select Care Role Forwarding Cellular Update Enabled.

• SMS Patient Contact Update
  • Description: Users will now press Enter on the device keypad after they choose the time from the pop-up upon sending an SMS Patient Contact message in Web Messenger.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Caregivers must have the Enable SMS Contact permission to use this feature.

• Offline Mode
  • Description: During an internet outage at the hospital, for a cloud deployment, users will still be able to use the following features:

    1. Users will be able to log out and re-authenticate from Security Mode

    2. Users will be able to use the phone and phone directory including care teams

  • Configuration and Maintenance: Enterprise Manager, Settings, Security, Advanced Settings, all Offline Mode Settings must be configured.

• Extension Recylcing 
  • Description:  If a caregiver doesn't use their extension for the configured number of days setup in Enterprise Manager, it will expire and the extension returns to the pool to be used by someone else.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Enterprise Manager, Settings, Security, Advanced Settings, Unused Extension Expiration.

• SMS Escalation
  • Description: SMS Escalation allows users to configure their user preferences so they receive an SMS text message notifying them that they have unread messages in their Inbox that require their attention. Users with the Edit Contact Info permission will be able to enter a 10-digit phone number that will receive the SMS text message.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Enterprise Manager, Settings, Security, Advanced Settings, Escalate to SMS. On the mobile device, the following settings must be configured: Profile, Preferences, Inbox Reminders, Escalate to SMS.

• Vocera Edge VoIP users can Place Calls to Badge Users
  • Description: When configured, Vocera Edge VoIP users can place calls to Badge users. Similarly, Badge users can place calls to Edge users on a VoIP network.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Enterprise Manager: Settings, Security, Advanced Settings, Badge Calling Enabled.

• Auto-Advance on Single-Select Response Questions/Alerts
  • Description: When enabled, Med Admin/Care Interventions/Infant Care/Specimen workflows are streamlined so that users do not explicitly need to select "Accept" and "Override with Reason" buttons. On single-select responses and override with reason workflows, users will only have to select their response and Vocera Edge will automatically navigate to the next screen in the workflow. Then, on the Summary screens (where applicable), users may modify their response if desired. Note: This feature applies to ALL Clinical workflows where single-select responses and/or override reasons are in use.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Clinical Manager, Configuration, Settings, Global Settings, Single-Select Response Settings, Enable Auto-Advance.

Med Admin Release Notes

• Configurable: Remove Admin/Prep Details and Summary Screens during Med Admin Workflows
  • Description: When configured for your facility and to streamline workflows, caregivers will bypass the Admin Details and/or Admin Summary screens and automatically navigate to the next screen in the workflow.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Please refer to your Vocera Edge Technical Account Manager (TAM) or Project Manager to implement this feature.

• Suppress Unverified by Caregiver workflow from RT's Unverified Order Workflow
  • Description: When configured AND the RT does not have the Verify Respiratory Therapy Orders permission, he/she will bypass the alert/override reason workflow that requires the RT to provide a reason for proceeding prior to the RN verifying the order.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Clinical Manager, Configuration, Settings, Respiratory Therapy, Respiratory Therapy Settings for RT Orders, Skip Unverified by Caregiver Alert

• Updated Scan Additional Dose Screen
  • Description: The name has changed to "Scan Additional Dose Amount." The functionality is that the user can simply scan the med again without being stopped, i.e. without having to select "Continue", etc.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: N/A

• Access Group Area in Clinical Manager Expands to Fit Longest Text Display
  • Description: The Access Group boxes (Clinical Manager,Pharmacy,General Settings, Pharmacy Setup tab, Access Groups) now fit to the width of the longest text display. Users have the ability to scroll side to side if the text goes beyond the box display.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: N/A

• “Display Only” message for IV pump meds has been restored
  • Description: In previous releases, users received an ambiguous, unclear message for IV pump meds that cannot be administered in Edge. The original messaging to the user has been restored.

The following list includes items fixed or improved in this version of Vocera Edge.

• Fixed issue where defined/configured video and voice tones were cleared (set to empty) if other notification behavior settings were modified.
• Fixed issue where caregiver put the application in the background and did not receive an audible ring when a call came in.
