Compatibility

VMP Server version 5.1 is not compatible with any version of the Vocera Collaboration Suite client prior to 3.0. You will need to upgrade your Vocera Collaboration Suite client to use this server.

To use the version 3.0 Vocera Collaboration Suite client with Vocera Smartphone Proxy, you must upgrade to VSP version 5.1. This upgrade does not have to happen at the same time as the VMP Server version 5.1 upgrade.

If you are working with the Vocera Voice Server, version 4.4.1 or later is required. If your organization is using Vocera Voice Server departments and synchronizing them with VMP groups, Vocera Voice Server 5.1 or later must be installed.

VMP Server 5.1 does not support message templates in which one or more recipients are Escalation Distribution Lists and other recipients are regular users. Only one Escalation Distribution List can be listed as a recipient, and it must be the only recipient.

What's Changed

The following features have been changed or removed in Vocera Messaging Platform 5.1.0.

Upgrading the VMP Server

Use the following steps to upgrade to VMP Server 5.1.0.

Important: If you are running version 4.9.2, you must first upgrade to version 4.9.4 before upgrading to version 5.1.0.
  1. Stop the Vocera Data Exchange service on the VMP Server:

    1. Open the Windows Services application:

Windows > Start > Administrative Tools > Services

    2. Click to select Vocera Data Exchange Service.

    3. Right click and select Stop.

  2. Execute the updated VMP setup file on the VMP installation server.

  3. Accept the License Agreement, and click Next.

  4. In the Software Type dialog, select VMP Server and Administrator, and click Next.

  5. Accept the existing Install Location and click Install.

  6. At the Create VMP Database Wizard prompt, enter the following information and click Next.

    1. Enter the SQL Server name.

Tip: Vocera recommends you type the name of the server and do not use the dropdown list to select a server.
    2. Select the SQL Server Authentication radio button.

    3. Enter the SA Login and Password.

  7. Click OK to confirm that the existing database will be upgraded, and click Next.

  8. Skip the step that asks you whether you want to install the OTA.xml file.

  9. The installer creates the VMP databases on the SQL server. When the script is complete, click OK.

  10. If the VMP Enterprise Manager opens after the database script is complete, close the application to complete the installation process. Click Finish to close the installer.

  11. Restart the server.

  12. The VMP Server is now updated. Confirm a good installation by opening a supported Web browser and pointing to the server URL. If VMP is installed correctly, the VMP Web Console opens.

Known Issues

This release includes the following known issues and limitations:

  1. Cannot view branches of an Escalation Distribution List in VMP Web Console. In the VMP Web Console, if you want to send a message to an Escalation Distribution List, there is no way to view the list's branch members. (DE5092)

  2. Custom Reply option appears when message sent to WCTP pager. When a message is sent from the VMP Server through a WCTP gateway to a pager client, the Custom Reply option appears in the Reply To Message section of the message, but free text responses are not supported. (DE6257)

  3. Audio and video content cannot be streamed to client devices through VSP. If you are using the Vocera Smartphone Proxy, you cannot stream audio and video content to client devices. This is because devices are normally connected to the VSP through a cellular network. (DE7618)

  4. PDF files not supported in VSP. Client applications that access the VMP Server through the Vocera Smartphone Proxy cannot open PDF files that are stored on the server. (DE7655)

  5. Notify Me icon reappears in VMP Web Console after page refreshed. If you send a message that requires a response, and indicate that you are to be notified if a response is not sent within a specified time, the red Notify Me icon correctly appears after the notification time has expired, and correctly disappears when you click on the message link in the Secure Messages panel, but incorrectly reappears if you refresh the page using the F5 key. (DE7813)

  6. Public ID field limited to 32 characters. The Public ID field, which can be used to identify the recipient in supported APIs, is limited to 32 characters of text. (DE8225)

  7. US30218 - Badges unable to respond to long message responses.

If you send a message to a badge with multiple choice responses, and the responses are longer than 15 characters, the selected response is not sent properly to the sender of the message.
