Important Changes
This release includes the following important changes:
- MS SQL Server 2005 not supported in this release. Version 4.9 and later of the VMP Server do
not support MS SQL Server 2005.
What's New
This release includes the following new features and functionality:
- SSL certificate can now be specified during installation. You can now provide an SSL certificate when installing the
VMP Server. This makes it easier to enable secure transmission of information to and from the server.
- Schedule Dashboard displays all daily schedules. The VMP Web Console
now provides a Schedule Dashboard, which enables you to view all shifts in all schedules
on a specified day.
- Distribution Lists now hidden in VMP Web Console.
Distribution Lists that have been marked as Hidden are now hidden in the VMP Web Console.
Previously, they were only hidden in the Vocera Collaboration Suite.
- Optimized Vocera Server synchronization. When the VMP Server synchronizes with the
Vocera Server, only the information required to update and change users is downloaded from the Vocera Server
to the VMP Server. This yields improved performance.
- Users in on-call schedules can be contacted. If you are viewing an on-call schedule, you can click
on any user that has been assigned a schedule shift. This displays the contact options for that user.
Depending on availability, you can place a Call or Urgent Call to the user, send an Alert to the user,
or start a Chat session with the user.
- Alert response notification now available. When you create and send an Alert from the VMP Web Console, you can specify that you are to receive a response
notification when a number of users have responded to the Alert within an indicated time. You can also specify that you are to receive a
negative response notification if these criteria are not met. This enables you to ensure that an Alert has been acknowledged by some or all of its intended recipients.
- PIN access for client devices can be enforced. A configuration option
has been added to enforce the use of a PIN when accessing a client application. This option can be specified for all devices
or for shared devices only.
An additional option enables you to specify the length of time that the
device can be idle before the PIN must be re-entered. Individual users can be configured to not require the use of a PIN.
- Subject display in Alert notifications can be controlled. A configuration option has been added to
control whether the Subject field is displayed when an Alert notification is sent to a client application.
- Message display in Chat notifications can be controlled. A configuration option has been added to
control whether message content is displayed when a Chat notification is sent to a client application.
- Alert content can be suppressed when sending via SMS. A configuration option has been added to enable you to specify
that the content of an Alert should not be delivered to an SMS user. This can be used to ensure that
sensitive data is not sent over a non-secure channel.
- Images can be included with Chat reports. A configuration option has been added to enable you to include
images when generating Chat reports.
- Automatic logout from VMP Web Console session when tab closed.
If you are logged in to the VMP Web Console, and you close the browser tab in which
your session is running, you now must log into the VMP Web Console to use it again.
This provides increased security if someone else uses your browser after you have closed the tab.
- Chat now available from Web Console. From within the VMP Web Console, you can now participate in a
Chat session with any Vocera Collaboration Suite user or Distribution List.
- Calls can be initiated from the Web Console. If you are logged into the Vocera Collaboration Suite, you
can use the VMP Web Console to initiate a Call to a contact. The call is placed from your
Vocera voice device.
- Mass Alert capability now provided. If you need to send an Alert to more than 200 recipients, this Alert is automatically
defined to be a Mass Alert. The list of Mass Alert recipients is not displayed on the client,
but is available from the VMP Web Console.
- Vocera Server and Active Directory server can be supplied during installation.
The installation procedure now allows you to specify the IP address of the Vocera Server and
the IP address or domain name of the Active Directory server that the VMP Server
will be synchronized with.
- VBI Data Export now supported. Configuration options have been added that enable you to activate the
Vocera Business Intelligence (VBI) Data Export functionality.
- Schedules can now be printed. When you are editing a schedule, you can print the scheduled shifts for the current day, week, or month.
- Response for email-initiated Alerts is now configurable. A new configuration option enables you to
specify whether a response is required for email-initiated Alerts.
- Windows Server 2012 now supported. This release of Vocera Server
supports Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2. The 64-bit versions of
Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are still supported.
Compatibility
VMP 4.9.2 is compatible with Vocera Server 4.4.1 and later.
All Vocera Collaboration Suite 2.0 and 2.0.1 clients are compatible with VMP 4.9.2.
Some features in the 4.9.2 release are not available on 2.0 clients.

- Unread counts of Alert messages and Chat sessions may not be completely accurate.
- Some Alert Template functionality may not be available.
- Alert and Chat content is not suppressed in popup notifications.
- In Dual Mode, Calls cannot be originated on the app and connected on the badge.
- Alerts with more than 200 recipients cannot be sent.
- Response notification to a sent Alert is not available.
- Users cannot enable the use of a PIN.
- There may be Chat history synchronization issues if some messages were sent from the VMP Web Console.
- Messages displayed in notifications on devices running the iOS operating system may contain minor variations, depending on the transport method used.
Upgrading the VMP Server
Use the following steps to upgrade to VMP Server
4.9.2.
Important: If you are running version 4.8, you must first upgrade to version 4.9.1 before upgrading to version 4.9.2.
-
Stop the Vocera Data Exchange service on the VMP Server:
-
Open the Windows Services application:
Windows > Start > Administrative Tools >
Services
-
Click to select Vocera Data Exchange
Service.
-
Right click and select Stop.
-
Execute the updated VMP setup file on the VMP installation
server.
-
Accept the License Agreement, and click
Next.
-
In the Software Type dialog, select VMP Server
and Administrator, and click Next.
-
Accept the existing Install Location and click
Install.
-
At the Create VMP Database Wizard prompt, enter the
following information and click Next.
-
Enter the SQL Server name.
Tip:
Vocera recommends you type the name of the server and do not use
the dropdown list to select a server.
-
Select the SQL Server Authentication radio
button.
-
Enter the SA Login and
Password.
-
Click OK to confirm that the existing database will be
upgraded, and click Next.
-
To install the BlackBerry client using the VMP server, you must install the
OTA.xml file included with the client installation
files.
Browse to the client folder, select the OTA.xml file,
click Open and click Complete.
-
The installer creates the VMP databases on the SQL server. When the
script is complete, click OK.
-
If the VMP Enterprise Manager opens after the
database script is complete, close the application to complete the installation
process. Click Finish to close the installer.
-
Restart the server.
-
The VMP Server is now updated. Confirm a good installation by opening a
supported Web browser (Internet Explorer 9 or later) and pointing to the server
URL. If VMP is installed correctly, the VMP Web Console opens.
What's Fixed
This release includes the following fixes:
-
Alert recipients now listed in VMP Web Console. When you are using the
VMP Web Console to display an Alert that you have sent, the To: field now
displays the list of selected recipients, not the list of recipients that the Alert has been queued for or sent to. (24024)
Known Issues
This release includes the following known issues and limitations:
-
Response Required set when Alert initiated via email through
VMP Server. When an email-initiated Alert is sent from the
VMP Server, a Response Required button is incorrectly displayed.
This problem does not occur in email-initiated Alerts sent from the
Vocera Server. (23996)
-
Back button does not work when selecting schedules for dashboard.
In the VMP Web Console, if you have selected one or
more schedules to display in the dashboard, you cannot use the Back "<" key to unselect
a schedule. To work around this problem, use "<<" to unselect all of the schedules,
then reselect the schedules that you want to display. (24431)
-
Time-sensitive Alert sends APNS push notifications after expiry if
device is off while Alert is unexpired. If a time-sensitive
Alert is sent to an iOS device that is turned off, and the device is not
activated until after the Alert has expired, APNS continues to send
Alert notifications until the Alert times out. (24507)
