What's New

This release includes the following new features and functionality.

Device Support for Vocera Collaboration Suite 3.0.0

Vocera Collaboration Suite version 3.0.0 provides support for any of the following devices running iOS 8.0 and later:

Some of the features of Vocera Collaboration Suite version 3.0 are provided on the Apple Watch.

Server Compatibility

Vocera Collaboration Suite 3.0.0 clients require VMP Server 5.1.0 for full functionality. When a Vocera Collaboration Suite 3.0.0 client is connected to VMP Server version 4.9.2 to version 4.9.4, the client uses version 2.0.2 backward compatibility mode to interact with the server.

Important: If your environment is using VMP Server 4.9.4 or earlier, the Apple Watch will always indicate that the number of new messages is zero, as the watch does not support the Alert and Chat capabilities provided on older versions of the server.

Vocera Voice Server 4.4.1 or later is required. If your organization is using Vocera Voice Server departments and synchronizing them with VMP groups, Vocera Voice Server 5.1 or later must be installed.

VMP Server 5.1 does not support message templates in which one or more recipients are Escalation Distribution Lists and other recipients are regular users. Only one Escalation Distribution List can be listed as a recipient, and it must be the only recipient.

Known Issues

This release includes the following known issues and limitations for versions of the Vocera Collaboration Suite running on Apple iOS operating systems.

The following Known Issues occur when VCS is connected with VMP Server version 4.9. In this case, VCS uses its version 2.0 interface.

  1. Popup notification not displayed when second unviewed conversation arrives. If you receive a notification for a message conversation and do not respond to it, and then receive a message from a second message conversation, no popup notification is displayed to inform you of the second conversation. (DE5438)

  2. Vocera Collaboration Suite does not automatically start on device restart if device password required. On all versions of the iOS operating system, if you have supplied a password for your device and you restart the device, you must enter the password before the Vocera Collaboration Suite will automatically start. This is a restriction in the iOS operating system: no interfaces, including Wi-Fi, are connected until the password is supplied.

The following Known Issues occur when VCS is connected with VMP Server version 5.1. In this case, VCS uses the interface described in the Vocera Collaboration Suite Version 3.0 User Guide.

  1. Audio is skipped after Call completed. When you have terminated a Call, the audio on your device may briefly skip every 20 to 30 seconds for a maximum of 5 minutes. Restarting the VCS app eliminates this problem. (DE6039)

  2. Upgraded client may initially display the most recent message at the top of the screen. If you upgrade your VCS client to version 3.0, and you open a previously existing message conversation for the first time, the most recent message in the conversation may be displayed in the top of the screen, not the bottom. When you reopen the conversation, the messages are displayed in the correct order. (DE6717)

  3. Vocera Call tone and vibration not resumed after cellular call completed. If you are in a cellular call and you receive a Vocera Call, you receive a notification with a single vibration, but the tone and vibration are not resumed when the cellular cell ends. (DE7039)

  4. Hold button enabled for Instant Conferences. When you join an Instant Conference, the Hold button is incorrectly enabled. Tapping this button terminates the conference. (DE7158)

  5. Profile picture sometimes cannot be edited on shared devices. If you terminate and relaunch the app as a shared device, the Edit Profile button may become disabled. The picture can be edited on personal devices. On shared devices, you may need to re-register the app. (DE7159)

  6. Voice message notification may not be provided by Genie. If someone leaves a voice message for you while you are unavailable, the Genie might not play back the missed call or might not play the appropriate ring tone, depending on the call priority. The Voice Message notification appears in the Call Log. (DE7224)

  7. Message body in Message Details screen is editable. If you are in the Message Details screen for a message with multiple choice responses, and you tap the message, you can edit its contents. The conversation is not updated with the edited contents. (DE7309)

  8. Call from Contact Details screen not logged as urgent. When you make an Urgent Call from the Contact Details screen, it is not recorded in the Call Log as urgent. Calls made from the Call screen are correctly recorded as urgent. (DE7315)

  9. DND for Text enabled in app even when disabled in VMP Server. If the "Enable Do Not Disturb Mode on Smartphone Clients" option is disabled in the VMP Server, it is still possible to set Do Not Disturb for Text in the VCS app. (DE7410)

  10. Additional screen appears when attempting to answer Call from Apple Watch. When you receive a Call notification on the Apple Watch, scroll down to view the Call options, and scroll up to tap Answer, a new screen appears, asking you whether you want to decline or accept the Call. This screen should not appear. (DE7424)

  11. Audio mode options do not behave as expected when Bluetooth headset disconnected during Call. If you disconnect the Bluetooth headset during a Call, audio is switched to the handset, but the Bluetooth option is shown as selected instead of disabled. Restarting the app fixes this problem. (DE7454)

  12. Secure Message screen not behaving as expected on iPad when new message started and screen switched to another module. On an iPad, if you tap Compose to start a new message, switch to the Call module or any other module, return to the Secure Messages screen, and select New Text or a template, the New Secure Message screen is not displayed as expected. Clicking again resolves this state. (DE7548)

  13. Error message for incorrect password not displayed when new PIN supplied. If you attempt to log in with the wrong password, and then attempt to change your PIN, the PIN reset screen is redisplayed without the "wrong password" screen having been displayed. (DE7551)

  14. Escalation Distribution List cannot be added to message recipient list if user added and deleted. If you create a Secure Message, add a user to the recipient list, and then remove the user from the recipient list, you cannot add an Escalation Distribution List to the recipient list. (DE7553)

  15. Badge icon appears in Call Log icon when logging into a different device. If you log into a device, log out of it, and then log into a different shared device, the badge icon may be displayed in the Call Log icon. (DE7560)

  16. Bluetooth headset connection not established in Call if it is connected after VCS is started. If you start VCS and connect a Bluetooth headset, and then attempt to initiate a Call, background noise is played over the headset, and the call reverts to the handset. (DE7563)

  17. Panic Call not initiated from Apple Watch when screen is off. If you tap the Panic Call button on the Apple Watch, and move your hand so that the screen becomes dark, the Panic Call is canceled. (DE7603)

  18. Panic Call not initiated from Apple Watch when DND for Call is set. If you have set Do Not Disturb for Call, you will not be able to make a Panic Call from the Apple Watch. When you tap the Panic Call button, the Genie appears on your device. (DE7604)

  19. Escalation Distribution List not added to message recipient list when displayed in To field on iPad. If you compose a Secure Message on an iPad, type the first few characters of the word "escalation" in the To field, and an Escalation Distribution List appears in the list of recipient options to select, the list is not added to the To field when you click on it. (DE7623)

  20. Vibration for High priority message persists after message dismissed on Apple Watch. If you receive a High priority message and you dismiss the message on the Apple Watch, the message vibration persists on the app. (DE7643)

  21. Message Details not available for nested Voice group. When you are selecting recipients for a Secure Message, and have displayed the Message Details screen for a Voice group, you cannot display a Message Details screen for a second Voice group contained in this Voice group. (DE7648)

  22. Speaker audio mode indicated though Call is going through handset. If you receive an Urgent Call and then end it, and then receive a regular Call, the Speaker audio mode icon is highlighted instead of the Handset icon, even though the call is going through the handset. (DE7653)

  23. Both Urgent and High priority message tones played (iOS 9). On an app running on the iOS 9 operating system, if you receive an Urgent priority message immediately after receiving a High priority message, your device plays the notification tones for both priorities. It should only play the Urgent priority message tone. (DE7677)

  24. Urgent Call placed from VMP Web Console listed as missed call in Call Log. If you place an Urgent Call from the VMP Web Console, the Call Log on your app lists this Call as an Urgent Missed Call. (DE7692)

  25. Call or Urgent Call to Voice group listed as missed call to group member. If you place a Call or an Urgent Call to a Voice group of which you are a member, and another group member answers it, the Call Log lists the Call or Urgent Call as a missed call to this group member. (DE7694, DE7695)

  26. Message tone and vibration settings not available on a different device platform. If you log into an Apple iOS device and set your notification tone and vibration options, these settings are not preserved if you log into an Android device. Similarly, settings created on an Android device are not preserved if you log into an Apple iOS device. If you log into another device of the same type, the settings are preserved. (DE7742)

  27. Date information sometimes truncated for older messages. Message date stamps that include the day of the week or the date, month, and year are sometimes truncated. (DE7789)

  28. DND for Call status may change inconsistently. When you turn off Do Not Disturb for Call, the status update may take some time to appear, and the status may waver between on and off. (DE7821)

  29. Operation Failed message may occur when placing a Call while the Wi-Fi connection has been lost and re-established. If your device loses its Wi-Fi connection and then re-establishes it while you are placing a Call, you may see an Operation Failed message. To resolve this problem, press the Genie button. (DE7926)

  30. Apple Watch occasionally becomes non-responsive after notification is tapped. When you receive a notification of a new call or message, the Apple Watch sometimes becomes non-responsive when you tap the notification and must be restarted. (DE8108)

  31. Duplicate entries may appear in call log if Wi-Fi dropped and reconnected during Call. If you are making a Call, and your network connection is dropped and re-established during the Call, duplicate call log entries for this Call may be created. (DE8255)

  32. VMP user entries are not loaded correctly if Title or Public ID contains an apostrophe. If you are running Vocera Collaboration Suite on the iOS operating system, and your application is attempting to import a VMP user into the Contacts screen when its Title or Public ID field contains an apostrophe, the record is not loaded properly, and significant delays may occur during registration and contact searches. (DE9073)
