Retiring a Device

This topics describes the steps to follow in a scenario where a system device manager has determined that the malfunctioning device is no longer under warranty or has non-warrantable damage. Avoid deleting devices; instead retire them. This will allow you to maintain historical data.

To retire a device:

  1. Complete steps 1 to 5 in Beginning to Manage Devices.
  2. Update fields in the Add/Edit Device dialog box:
    1. In the Status field, select "Retired" from the drop-down list.
    2. In the Notes field, enter today’s date, notes indicating the reason for retiring the device, and your initials.
    3. Click Save.
