Updating the VMP Server

If you have previously installed the VMP Server, you can use the VMP setup file to upgrade your installation to the latest version.

Note: For best results, save a backup of the contents of the folder in which the VMP Server is installed (by default, this is \Program Files\Vocera), and save a copy of the WICMASTER SQL database.

If you are using an SSL connection, the VMP Server must validate the SSL certificate using the existing Windows mechanisms. See SSL Certificate Validation for more details.

Stop the Vocera Data Exchange service. See Starting and Stopping the VMP Server for details on how to do this.
Execute the updated VMP setup file on the VMP installation server.
In the Welcome screen, click Next.
Accept the License Agreement, and click Next.
In the Software Type dialog, select VMP Server and Administrator, and click Next.
If you are upgrading to version 5.5 of VMP, you may see this dialog box, warning you that VMP now always uses the Vocera Client Gateway server to handle connections to Vocera Collaboration Suite clients.

Click OK to acknowledge that you have read this message. See Using VCS With Vocera Client Gateway for more information.
Accept the existing Destination Folder and click Install.
In the Create VMP Database Wizard dialog, do the following:
1. Ensure that the SQL Server field contains the SQL instance name that the VMP Server is using.
2. Select the Sql Server Authentication radio button.
3. Enter the server authentication Login and Password.
4. Click Next.
Note: For details about the SQL Server requirements, see the Vocera Messaging Platform Server Sizing Guide.
Click OK to confirm that the existing database will be upgraded.
The database wizard now enables you to change the SQL login names that VMP uses. You do not normally need to change these login names. Click Next.
The installer will upgrade the VMP databases on the SQL server. When the script is complete, click OK.
If the VMP Enterprise Manager opens after the database script is complete, close the application to complete the installation process. Click Finish to close the installer.
Restart the server.
The VMP Server is now updated. Confirm a good installation by opening a supported Web browser and pointing to the server URL. If VMP is installed correctly, the VMP Web Console opens.
