Dynamic Extensions

Dynamic extensions allow Vocera users who have not been manually assigned an extension to use telephony related features such as paging call-back and receiving direct calls from desk or external phones.

Depending on the dynamic extension options configured for a facility, users are assigned a unique extension (phone number) in their Vocera profile.

The dynamic extension numbers are useful to Vocera users without an actual desk phone extension number. These are also useful when the Direct Inward Dialing (DID) extensions are used for Vocera devices, but there are not enough DID numbers to dedicate to each Vocera user.

Options are available to automatically assign dynamic extensions for users when they get added to the system. System administrators are no longer required to manage the assignment of Vocera phone extensions to users manually.

You can view the real-time status of the dynamic extensions in Web Console and track the assigned or available (free) extension numbers.

When you enable the dynamic extension feature, you can configure the settings to:

To learn more about enabling dynamic extensions and configuration details, see Configuring Dynamic Extension for a Facility For information on the status of extension numbers in the system, refer to Tracking Dynamic Extension Status .

Important:

Users must be logged into the Vocera system to get a dynamic extension assigned to them. If a user already has a Vocera phone extension, then the existing extension is retained when they login and a dynamic extension will not be assigned.

Vina users with a dynamic extension assigned to them can see the dynamic extension displayed in their Vina App or Vina Web profile. The configured Vocera phone number is displayed for Vina users who do not have a dynamic extension assigned to them.
